Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (APKGK) is a film both fresh in character and appearance. While the pairing of Ranbir Kapoor and the charismatic Katrina Kaif comes with the promise of newness for the audience, the music of course, does not fall far behind with its own share of novelty with each song having something unique to offer. The composer-lyricist duo of Pritam and Irshad Kamil has done a good job and the variety of the album is apparent in the long list of singers involved in the project.

The album has a rocking start with 'Main Tera Dhadkan Teri'. Already a chart buster, the song has been sung by KK, Sunidhi Chauhan and Hard Kaur. DJ Suketu has done a very good job at the remix making it one of the best numbers in the album. The song makes an impact right at the outset, and helps in augmenting Pritam's credibility and talent as a composer. 'Follow Me' – a solo version of the same song by Hard Kaur is a seductive number and has a good appeal.

The next song is a romantic number: 'Tu Jaane Na' sung by Atif Aslam. The lyrics are good and the tune is a treat to the ears. Though the song seems to be starting in medias res, it continues to be a good number, the composition etched out by Pritam. In fact the impact of the song is slow and time taking. Hence in order to bring about justice to the song and its lyrics, it has been repeated four times in the film with different singers at work. After Atif Aslam, the song emerges in a 'reprise version' with Soham, Rana Mazumdar and Ashish Pandit all coming together. Tu Jaane Na is in fact pretty much a highlight version of the album where DJ Suketu does a good job at creating the remix and Kailash Kher, Paresh and Naresh create an unplugged version. The song has a repeat value, which does not get the listener bored.

'Oh By God' is a different number with a different flavour. The tune of the Shehnai has been exploited a lot and it sounds good! The song is a youthful and attractive number with Mika and Sunidhi Chauhan doing a good job.

Melody is sweet with the duo of Atif Aslam and Alisha Chinoy coming together in 'Tera Hone Laga Hoon'. A love song written by Ashish Pandit, this transports one to the romanticism of the hills and the valleys. The song is soothing and comforts the heart and mind. In fact the remix version also succeeds in keeping the spirit of the melody intact. Neeraj Sridhar and Suzanne D'Mello in the next number 'Prem ki Naiyya' do a decent job as singers, but the song falls a little short in the album compared to its other counterparts.

The last song of the album also leaves a good feeling in the mind with 'Aa Jao Meri Tamanna' - a love song with both melody and pace; the song has a distinct Pritam feel to it.

Over all, APKGK stands out for its songs, and the combined effort of all singers along with Pritam and Kamil as music composers have done true justice to the film's music. Seems this is Pritam's year of success - so go for it. This one can certainly be picked off the shelf!
